Once you have your smoke alarms fitted in your home, you need to make sure they work which should be done on a regular basis.
Smoke alarms should be tested at least monthly.
If your alarms have a 1 year battery, make sure it is changed every year & only take it out to replace it. A lot of people forget about their smoke alarms and tend to forget about testing the batteries. With this in mind, longer life batteries are a great option.
DON'T disconnect or take the battery out if it goes off by mistake.
Mains-powered alarms also need regular checks. Although they are powered by your home power supply and are installed by a qualified electrician, they still need regular testing to ensure they are working correctly.
When testing smoke alarms you're also testing the smoke sensor to ensure that is activating.
Strobe lighting & vibrating pad alarms are available for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
